Maintenance services are performed as outlined

in this section, based on intervals of either time,

mileage or after performing a specified number

of previous services. These intervals correspond

to the latest information available when this

Booklet was printed. Maintenance intervals are

subject to change with newer vehicles or may

also apply retroactively. Your BMW center will

advise and perform maintenance services as

required by the most recent information that

applies to your vehicle.

Standard operations

Maintenance work:

䉯 Verify Check Control messages.

䉯 Check indicator and warning lights.

䉯 Reset CBS display.

䉯 Inspect tires, adjust tire pressures and reset

Tire Pressure Monitor.

1200 Mile Running-In Service (M3

only)

Maintenance work:

䉯 Change the engine oil and oil filter. Use only

Castrol EDGE Professional TWS 10W-60

Synthetic Engine Oil (BMW part number

83 12 2 219 730) or Castrol TWS Motorsport

SAE 10W-60 Synthetic (BMW part number

07 51 0 009 420).

䉯 Change the transmission fluid and clean the oil

filter.

NOTE: this does not apply to the optional

M-DCT Drivelogic transmission.

䉯 Change the fluid in the rear axle differential.

1200 Mile Running-In Service (M5

and M6)

Maintenance work:

䉯 Change the engine oil and oil filter. Use only

BMW High Performance SAE 5W-30

Synthetic Oil (BMW part number

07 51 0 002 545).

䉯 Change the fluid in the rear axle differential.

䉯 M5 with optional manual transmission:

Change the transmission fluid and clean the oil

filter.

NOTE: this does not apply to the standard-

equipment M-DCT Drivelogic transmission.

Engine oil service (M3 only)

Maintenance work:

䉯 Change the engine oil and oil filter. Use only

Castrol EDGE Professional TWS 10W-60

Synthetic Engine Oil (BMW part number

83 12 2 219 730) or Castrol TWS Motorsport

SAE 10W-60 Synthetic (BMW part number

07 51 0 009 420).

䉯 At every 3rd engine oil change: Intake air

cleaner: Replace air filter element (reduce

replacement interval in dusty operating

conditions).

䉯 With standard transmission: At every 3rd

Engine Oil Service:

– Change the transmission fluid and clean the

oil filter.

NOTE: this does not apply to the optional

M-DCT Drivelogic transmission.

– Change the fluid in the rear axle differential.

䉯 Parking brake: Check function and

pre-burnish.

Engine oil service (M5 and M6)

Maintenance work:

䉯 Change the engine oil and oil filter. Use only

BMW High Performance SAE 5W-30

Synthetic Oil (BMW part number

07 51 0 002 545).

䉯 At every 2nd engine oil change: Intake air

cleaner: Replace air filter element (reduce

replacement interval in dusty operating

conditions).

䉯 At every 3rd engine oil change:

– Change the fluid in the rear axle differential.
