High Precision Injection
In this cutting-edge generation of direct injection,
the Piezo injectors in the BMW  Series Gran
Turismo are positioned very close to the spark
plugs. They inject fuel at high pressure and with
extreme precision. Several injections are possible
per ignition process. Thanks to fast and fl exible
electronic control, the timing and quantity of
injections can be precisely adjusted to the power
requirement, the temperature, and the pressure in
the cylinder – for more output and greater
effi ciency.
BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology
This innovative exhaust turbocharger effi ciently
recaptures the energy present in exhaust through
the use of two turbochargers.

The particularly smooth gear shifts of the new
-speed automatic transmission produce greater
engine effi ciency at every speed. The result: a
reduction in fuel consumption of approximately
% and more comfortable gear changes.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply the battery with electrical energy, the generator is
ordinarily driven using engine power, which demands permanent
fuel consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means the
generator produces electricity when the driver takes his or her
foot off the accelerator – while coasting or braking, previously
used kinetic energy is transformed into electrical energy before
being fed into the battery. This fuel-free charging process is
indicated by a symbol on the rev counter (page ).
Lightweight engineering
Our engineers use lightweight aluminum
throughout our vehicles, in the front section,
for example, or for the suspension. Additionally,
the doors, roof and rear tailgate structure are
entirely aluminum in the BMW  Series Gran
Turismo. The weight savings reduce fuel
consumption and at the same time optimize
axle load distribution for improved dynamics.
This is what we’ve engineered into our vehicles.
Thanks to innovative Effi cientDynamics features, BMW
has been able to signifi cantly reduce CO
emissions
and fuel consumption in many models. But that’s just
the beginning. We’re carrying on our research in terms
of Effi cientDynamics – in the quest to bring you even
more driving pleasure with even fewer emissions.
